… Under-23 tournament continues today
RETRIEVE Raiders brushed aside Block 22 Flames 51-39 as the Kashif and Shanghai Kings overcame a strong-looking Amelia’s Ward Jets, edging past them 49-48, when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) Under-23 basketball championship got started last Friday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden. The Raiders owed their win to the solid scoring from Sheldron Noel and Yannick Primo with 10 points each while Omar Sam added six in their winning cause. Selwyn Noble was the star player for the losing Flames side as he had a game-high 17 points.
In the second game of the night Kashif and Shanghai Kings got the better of their opponents Amelia’s Ward Jets behind a strong closing burst from former junior national guard, Orin Rose, whose top score of 16 points included four from downtown.
He gained adequate support from Quincy Easton and Akeel Primo who contributed 10 points apiece as Quincy Halley got nine.
Current junior national player Linden Fraser played for the Jets scoring a game-high 17 points as his captain Parrish Cadogan supported with 13 points.
The LABA Under-23 championship will continue this evening with another double-header feature at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard court starting at 18:30hrs when Victory Valley Royals face GTS Half Mile Bulls, while in the second game at 20:30hrs Block 22 Flames will play their second match in the tournament, coming up against Wismar Pistons.
