El Dorado supports KMTC Boxing Day horse race meet

KENNARD Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) most loyal partner, El Dorado, came on board once again to help in the hosting of the annual Boxing Day Horse Racing Meeting on December 26 at the club’s race course in Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne. According to president of the club, Justice Cecil Kennard, this year marks the 39th anniversary of the partnership which began in 1972 when El Dorado operated under the name ‘Demerara Distillers Limited’.
El Dorado’s Brand Manager Jeranzee Marques, who made the monetary handover and also the trophy for the ‘G & Lower W/A race’ which was completely sponsored by the company said, “It is a pleasure to be associated with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club again.
“For a number of years, we at El Dorado rum have been associated with the KMTC and this year is no different as we always have no hesitation whenever that call comes from Mr Kennard in connection with their horse meet.”
He also stated that they are pleased to be the major sponsor of the Boxing Day meet and it is their way of giving back to the sporting community in Guyana.
When Kennard made his brief remarks, he said: “We are grateful that El Dorado has once again come on board to support the Kennard Memorial Turf Club. I have said through the years that sponsorship is absolutely necessary for the success of a sport.”
He made clear of the club’s policy which is to make an addition to the turf club following every meet they host, in order to make the sport pleasurable to enjoy.
As such, Kennard mentioned that the club has spent approximately $5M to extend the upper pavilion and refurbish the rails and other parts of the spectators’ stands.
Meanwhile, the ten-race event gets under way from 12:30hrs and fans can expect a number of top horses on display including Grand Roje, Dubai Duchess, ‘Jet, Set, Go’, The Message and Ferry Landing among the other 70-odd entries that have been registered for the meet.
Continued support for the event comes from the Kharag family formerly of Bush Lot and now residing overseas. This is the third consecutive year that they have completely sponsored the B & Lower W/A race which carries a top prize of $1M while the runner-up positions are set at $500 000, $250 000 and $125 000.
