Alpha, Charlestown, Beacon & Flamingo in Day 2 showdown
“WIN or go home” that’s the watch phrase in the GFA Banks Beer Soccer Festival with the theme ‘I am Guyanese, I will celebrate Banks Beer’. These are the words that you will hear come tonight at the GFC ground when Day 2 of the tournament continues with a double- header.
In the opening match Alpha United, Guyana‘s #1 football club will face GFA newcomers Charlestown FC, while in the supporting game Beacon and Flamingo battle for a place in the round-of-eight.
Alpha United FC are expected to renew their performance from the present GFA Banks President Beer League with the fully powered lineup of Ronson Williams, Richard Reynolds as goalkeepers, Quincy Madramootoo, Selwyn Isaacs, Kevin McKenzie in defence Philbert Moffatt, Leon Grumble, Quacy Johnson, and Chris Chomacho at midfield.
It is not too certain if Anthony ‘Awo: Abrams will return to the field but the forwards will be announced just before kick-off.
Charlestown will fully support their key players Rudolph and Rocky Gravesande along with Shon Anderson.
Beacon are expected to launch a full attack on the Flamingo lineup since Phillip Rowley will be at full flight in attack for his side. Eon Singh, former national midfielder Jerome Richardson and Orville Millington will lead the striking line.
Flamingo’s starting line-up have not yet been named, but are expecting to surprise their opponents with a win to move to the round-of-eight.
The opening match will kick-off at 18.00hrs while the supporting match will start at 20.00hrs. The teams remaining are battling for the top prize of G$3M, runners-up G$1.5M, $500 000 and $250 000 respectively for the third and fourth places.
Banks DIH Ltd under the Banks Beer product, McNeal Promotions and Courtney Benn Constructing Company Ltd are the major sponsors of the tournament.
