RAWLWYNE Crumewing, of Lot 3474 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a charge of robbery with violence.
The indictable charge said, on December 5, the accused robbed Julian Johnson of one cell phone valued $175,000 and, at the time, made use of personal violence against the victim.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the accused, who was driving a minibus stopped in front of the virtual complainant, came out of the vehicle, cuffed Johnson about his body, sprayed a substance in his face and then took away the phone.
But Defence Counsel Adrian Thompson, maintaining that Crumewing is innocent of the offence, said the virtual complainant owes him money and refused to pay.
The lawyer said the virtual complainant made up the allegation so that he will not have to repay the cash borrowed.
The accused was put on $75,000 bail until December 15.
