Ramsammy proposes ‘National Think Tank’ by today

– believes a consensual advance is the best way forward for Agriculture sector
HEADS of Departments in the agriculture sector are expected to recommend persons to be included in a National Think Tank proposed by the newly appointed Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy.
He told a meeting of staffers, on Tuesday, that a consensual advance is the best way forward for the sector.
Ramsammy said the group of national stakeholders, when established, will inform the sector’s advances and meet regularly but with no restrictions to rapidity and swiftness of daily routines.
“We want national consensus of all stakeholders…this will be a place for views and disagreements,” he said.
Ramsammy called for the terms of reference of the think tank to be ready by today, adding: “We have to put the plans and programmes in place…we have to go and make it work.”
The Minister maintained that, at the end of the day, the position agreed on by the group will be that with which the sector will work.
“This will be useful as we further transform the sector,” he said.
Ramsammy noted, too, that access to food, the quality of it and improved livelihoods are all areas that will be enhanced through the establishment of a team.
“We are going to make agriculture meaningful and transform it in a way to improve lives,” he reiterated.
Ramsammy assured that small and large entrepreneurs, both public and private, will also be supported through the successes of the team effort.
