Neal and Massy one- day tourney in Berbice

THE Neal and Massy Security Solutions (NMSS) is the sole sponsor of a one-day rapid chess tournament which will take place at the University of Guyana, Tain Corentyne, Berbice campus tomorrow. Registration gets under way at 09:30hrs at the venue and all male and female chess players in and out of Berbice are invited to participate.
The tournament was initiated by NMSS Berbice Branch coordinator John London who pointed out that “the more we get of our citizenry, especially youths to play the game, it would set the basis for an improved society.”
President of the Guyana Chess Federation Shiv Nandalall welcomed London’s observation and reiterated that young people are the main targets of the GCF, while saying the competition will consist of seven rounds with a junior and senior category.
Trophies, cash and chess sets would be awarded to prize winners, with reading material on chess being distributed to the junior participants.
Registration fee is $300 for juniors and $500 for seniors. Players would each have 20 minutes for each round to complete their game, with each round of the tournament expected to last a maximum 40 minutes.
The GCF would be providing chess clocks for the tournament and players with tournament-size chess sets can bring them along. Interested chess players can contact Steve Leung on 644-9721 for further information.
