ST JOHN’S, Antigu, (CMC) – Scores of Under-17 players around the region were left disappointed after the West Indies Cricket Board decided yesterday to postpone the inaugural regional tournament for this age group. The tournament was scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago from December 10 to 20 and the WICB said the decision was taken to postpone the series after consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
“The postponement is due to heavy rains in the two-island republic over the past two weeks which has left several match venues waterlogged and this situation has hampered the pitch preparation process,” stated a media release from the WICB.
“More inclement weather is forecast in the coming weeks and this would likely affect the playing of matches.”
The regional governing body noted that it would give consideration to the tournament being played from June to July next year.
