LAKRAM Deonarine, of Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, walked away with $1.8M on Wednesday, as the 6th winner of Vault Promotion 2011, a COURTS (Guyana) Limited promotion.
The carpenter said he did not know his name was chosen because his phone was broken and Courts staff was unable to make contact to notify him.
He was going to pay his monthly installment when he was told of his luck.
Deonarine also told the media that it was the stove that he had bought from the furniture giant that paved the way to his fortune.
He won the prize with the assistance of his wife and daughter after choosing vault number 2.
Deonarine said he was offered the opportunity of switching his vault numbers but did not change from his choice.
The promotion will continue for two more weeks.
Last week, Sherwin Grimes of Linden got the top prize of $2M cash.
COURTS launched the promotion under the theme ‘Many will try but only one holds the key’ last Friday, at its Main Street, Georgetown store.
A release said the theme is centred on a mixture of a Las Vegas show which includes a host, hostess and the vault team of muscular secret service agents.
The fundamental of the COURTS vault promotion is not only to have a life-changing experience when you shop there but to get rich doing so, the release said.
