IT was 6:00pm in the afternoon, and I was trying to get the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB), that’s on North Road, Bourda. As I reached the place and entered the gate, I was nervous, so I saw a little writing “EAB upper flat Press Buzzer’, so I did. Then I saw a young man who was Indian and who wore dark glasses. He opened the door and greeted me with a smile. I smiled back. I then asked him: “Is the EAB closed already” and he said “no m’am, we’re open” and asked, “How may we help you” and I responded “I am here to check to see if my name is on the voters’ list and where I am voting.” The guy said “ok m’am we can help you.” I felt relieved and not feeling nervous anymore and the guy sounded so professional for which I was glad.
From my point of view, I know that I was going to get the best help I need, so the young man showed me where to go and he went back to his destination. As I proceeded upstairs, there were so many people and were all busy and I was happy to see that. They were also a lot of young people working there. They were so active and helpful. As I walked up the steps further, there was a nice young woman at the desk. She was dark skinned and she greeted me with a smile and asked me how can I help you and I replied: “I am here to check to see if my name is on the list and where am I voting,” and young lady said “ok m’am , can I have your ID card” and I gave it to her. She then told me to wait for two minutes, so I waited. Within one minute :20 seconds the young lady was back with my information, and she told me that I was on the list and she also told me where I would be voting. I then confronted her and asked if she was a member of staff here and she replied with a smile: “Yes m’am” and she spoke in a very professional manner. The EAB has respectable and trained staff that can assist you in a minute, so if you want to know if your name is on the list, I must say that you can come down to the EAB and get professional help. I think they should be honoured for their hard work.
EAB staff courteous, professional
