Man, 78, found dead in bed at home

THE decomposing body of Randolph Melville, 78, of Lot 116 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was discovered in his bed yesterday, after neighbours smelled the stench and telephoned his relatives.
A female relative (who wished to remain unnamed) told the Guyana Chronicle that she used to visit him on a daily basis before she went abroad.
But on her return, she was greeted with the news of his demise by neighbours, who did not see the ailing man for days.

The woman said Melville lived alone, was a diabetic and often unwell. She last saw him alive about three and a half weeks ago.
Neighbours yesterday said the septuagenarian was not so well and had not been seen for a few days but they did not suspect anything until a foul odour began emanating from Melville’s house.
They realised that something was not right and raised an alarm which led to the gruesome discovery of his corpse.
There was no sign of a break-in but police were summoned and a hearse arrived and took away Melville’s body.
Most of his relatives are abroad.
