With conflicting messages…

Some correspondents using Facebook to create havoc
MANY citizens have been encouraging and reminding their fellow Guyanese brothers and sisters that it is that time when they are to act upon the motto of the country: ‘One people, One nation, One destiny’.
On the other hand, there have been quite a number of persons who are trying to create havoc, especially through the social network Facebook.
While some persons continue to encourage a clean and peace-filled Guyana, others are unsure as to what next to do, with all the fear that has built up in their minds after reading and being influenced by all the misleading comments being made by correspondents on that medium.
Persons are being urged by the various religious leaders to be calm and act wisely and responsibly in times like these.
During the past three days, a number of persons have been expressing their frustration by making threats against the different political leaders, and more specifically, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) presidential candidate Mr. Donald Ramotar.
It is the view of some that, like the adults, youths who are unfamiliar with the politics of Guyana are being fed by higher leadership to take matters to another level, by making comments that may be racist against each other.
“While some persons remain calm with regards to this critical period in Guyana, others have been making it their duty to ridicule their brothers and sisters because of politics,” one facebook fan wrote.
Persons agreed that if the youths of Guyana continue to be misled in ways that are unethical, the country will make no progress, and thus remain stagnant and brainwashed.
Various leadership groups around the country have been working and urging people to preserve peace and remain calm in whatever they do.
Regardless of the outcome of this year’s general and regional elections, Guyanese should accept it and continue to work together for the continuous development of the nation.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Shaik Bkash has acknowledged a decrease in the attendance at schools throughout the country due to the electoral period.
He, however, commended the teachers who showed up for work at their respective schools everyday during the period.
The minister, in a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle, said while there has been a drastic reduction in those who attended over the last three days on the coastlands, especially at the secondary school level, the situation in the hinterland areas remains the same.
“While schools have not been officially closed for this period, parents are taking it upon themselves to keep their children at home,” he said.

Some of the comments that were posted by fans on the popular social network site Facebook, which drove the minds of its fans for the past three days.
