NEWSBREAK:

PPP/C reiterates call for early release of elections results
The People’s Progressive Party/Civic has, once again, called on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to immediately release the results of the recently concluded November 28, 2011, General and Regional elections.
While the PPP/C is cognisant of the need for GECOM to be meticulous, the Party, like all Guyanese, remains unclear as to the timeline for the releasing of the results.
The PPP/C, in a statement around noon today, said it is not in solitude in noticing that GECOM did not meet its timeline of the evening of November 30, 2011, which was announced earlier on the said day. This has led to an overwhelming sense of ambiguity among Guyanese who, since the close of poll, continue to be in an atmosphere of uneasiness. While the PPP/C believes that GECOM is not oblivious of these circumstances, the Party said it feels compelled to remind the Commission of the need for the immediate release of the results.

The PPP/C, being mindful of the situation, on Wednesday magnanimously withdrew its request for a partial recount of a few Ballot Boxes so that the Party would not be accused of trying to impede the process.
Based on information received, the PPP/C believes that GECOM is in a position to release the results. The PPP/C therefore calls on all stakeholders to take a unified stance in asking for a timely release of the results.
While the PPP/C, through its request echoes the sentiments of all, the Party urges that GECOM should not allow itself to become frustrated by others who are inclined to delay the current process.
