CORPORATE sponsorship for this year’s Kashif and Shanghai Football Extravaganza is gaining momentum even with the kick-off date fast approaching. Giftland OfficeMax became the latest member from the business fraternity to throw its support into the tournament. Yesterday, the variety complex which is located on Water Street, made a ‘sizeable donation’ to the dynamic duo, to aid in the cost for this year’s 22nd edition of the tournament.
Making the presentation to the duo was Marketing Manager of the sponsor, Compton Babb, who said, “Giftland OfficeMax is proud to be part of this great event for the sixth year in a row, with this donation and we want to wish the teams well as we look forward to another successful tournament.”
Speaking on behalf of the K&S Organisation, Greg ‘Kashif’ Muhammad thanked the entity for its support once again and said preparations are moving apace for Guyana’s premier football competition.
Twenty teams, including two from overseas, will vie for the top prize of one pound of gold valued at G$4M that was donated through the kind compliments of Aruwai Enterprise Limited, while the runners-up will receive $1M.
The third- and fourth-placed finishers will pocket $500 000 and $300 000 respectively, while the Most Valuable Player will receive a motorcycle.
The teams competing for supremacy are: Caribbean United, Caledonia AIA, Pele, Western Tigers, Topp XX, Milerock, Netrockers, Amelia’s Ward United, Winners Connection, BV/Triumph, Victoria Kings, Buxton Stars, Den Amstel, Seawall United, New Amsterdam United, Rosignol United, Mill Ballers, Timehri Panthers, Kuru Kururu Warriors, and Grove Hi-Tec.
The tournament will run from December 10 to January 1, 2012, with preliminary matches billed for the GFC, Uitvlugt, Mackenzie Sports Club, Blairmont, and BV grounds. The semifinals and final will take place at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
