A PARTNERSHIP for National Unity (APNU) has charged that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) process is in crisis and has been manipulated. But the Chief Elections Officer, Mr. Gocool Boodhoo has categorically refuted the charge, stating that extreme care has been taken to declare full and proper results and there is no crisis on hand.
He added that the Commissioners are there, as are the observers and, as such, the process is free and fair.
GECOM Chairman, Dr. Steve Surujbally added: “The process is not anywhere near crisis, not anywhere near superficially in crisis.”
APNU, in a release, had said it is profoundly disturbed by the undue influence being exercised by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).
“GECOM’s arrangements have already resulted in inordinate delays and vacillation in producing the results for the General and Regional Elections,” the release said.
“APNU’s supporters and all fair-minded Guyanese have become fed up with GECOM and the PPP/C’s machinations. They will, therefore, never endorse any subterfuge that seeks to endorse, retroactively, Ramotar’s declaration,” the release stated.
Meanwhile, PPP/C Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar, yesterday called on political parties to desist from making statements that peddle misunderstanding and create confusion.
