On Suriname’s 36th Independence Anniversary

PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo has sent a congratulatory message to Suriname’s President Desi Bouterse on the occasion of that country’s 36th independence anniversary. Following is the text of the message:
My Dear Colleague
Please accept my sincere congratulations and that of the Government and people of Guyana on the occasion of the 36th independence anniversary of the Republic of Suriname. The people of Suriname should be justly proud of the many achievements of their country since the attainment of nationhood status, and we wish them even greater progress and prosperity in the years ahead.
I wish to take this opportunity to reiterate to you the firm commitment of the Government of Guyana to the maintenance and strengthening of the excellent relations which now exist between our two countries.  Guyana looks forward to working with Suriname to preserve these ties through sustained dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of our peoples.
On a personal note, as I demit office, I extend to you my best wishes for your personal health and well-being, and continued success in the execution of your mandate as President of the Republic of Suriname.  I valued highly your friendship and sincerity.
With my highest consideration.
Bharrat Jagdeo
President of the Republic of Guyana
