– describes her as a very objective women’s rights activist
The Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO), the women’s arm of the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C), has issued a statement on the passing of Alliance For Change (AFC) founding member, Mrs. Sheila Holder. Following is the text of the WPO statement:
“The Women’s Progressive Organisation is saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Sheila Holder, a talented Guyanese woman who has contributed to the development of Guyana in a variety of ways.
Mrs. Holder is best known as an active advocate for consumer rights and protection.
Her association with the AFC and her subsequent election to the National Assembly as a Member of Parliament brought her into public life in a much more pronounced way.
Her presentations in the National Assembly were well researched, and she was not afraid to take on any issue in the Assembly.
As a women’s rights activist, she was very objective, and was always willing to concede to a view, once presented with a convincing argument.
Guyana has lost an exemplary daughter, and her family has lost a great wife, mother and grandmother.
The WPO joins with all her friends, well-wishers and all the people whose lives she had touched in extending heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved relatives.
May her soul rest in peace.”
