Consolation win for Soca Warriors

KENWYNE Jones and Lester Peltier scored second-half goals yesterday to lift Trinidad & Tobago to a 2-0 win over Guyana at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Despite the win, the already-eliminated Soca Warriors fell one point short of table-topping Guyana in Group B.

The Caribbean sides had the same number of wins (4), but the point gained by the Golden Jaguars in their 1-1 draw at Bermuda on October 11 proved to be the difference.
Jones, who scored in the 2-1 loss to Guyana on Friday, gave the host a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute. Six minutes later, Lester Peltier, 23, added an insurance goal for the winner.
Trinidad & Tobago won each of their three home qualifiers by a total score of 7-0, but two away losses proved to be their undoing. Peltier (4 goals) and Jones (3 goals) combined to score seven of their team’s 11 goals.
Guyana, who scored less and conceded more goals than Trinidad, posted only one win in their last three outings. (CONCACAF website)
