NARINE Hansraj (no address given) was sentenced to three years imprisonment yesterday for drug trafficking and possession of ammunition.
He appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and pleaded guilty to both offences, admitting that on November 11, he had one kilogramme 196 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) to traffick and two 12-gauge cartridge casings, being components of ammunition.
Police Corporal Jairam Luckhai, prosecuting, said ranks from the Narcotics Branch went to the prisoner’s home and a search conducted there also yielded a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of the prohibited plant in a bucket.
Hansraj was fined $30,000 as well for the trafficking and two years imprisonment for the ammunition, but the sentences will run concurrently.
