Guinness ‘Greatest in Da Street’ moves to the National Cultural Centre tarmac tonight

PRELIMINARY round action continues tonight as the Guinness ‘Greatest in Da Street’ Football Competition moves to the National Cultural Centre tarmac with another eight scheduled matches to be contested from 18:00hrs.
The matches tonight in their respective order are: North Last Entrance versus Kingstown, Sophia versus Festival City, East Front Road versus Linden Eagles, D’Urban Street versus Linden Retrieve, Albouystown A versus Charlestown, Stevedore Housing Scheme versus Island Allstars, West Back Road versus Albouystown B and West Front Road versus Back Circle.
Hundreds of spectators turned out on Saturday night at the Burnham Court to get a glimpse of the teams on display.
In the first half of the programme Beterverwagting (BV) defeated Norton Street 1–1, East La Penitence dominated Plaisance 4–1, Leopold Street got past Costello Housing Scheme 3–0 and Alexander Village edged Rasville 2–1.
Wrapping up the night, Queen Street Tiger Bay and Broad Street needled Kitty and Laing Avenue, Hope Street Tiger Bay received a walkover from Buxton while Lodge Housing Scheme and Globe Yard played to a 2–2 draw.
Scoring for Leopold Street in their sweet victory were Omalo Williams (8th), Rawle Audain (10th) and Kenny Fraser (20th) while the opposition’s misfortune left the eventual victors with a clean sheet.
East La Penitence’s victory was inspired by a Sheldon Edwards double scored in the 5th and 8th minutes. He was supported by Dennis Edwards (15th) and Marlon Chalmers (25th) while Plaisance’s Carlos Matthews scored a consolation goal.
Lodge Housing Scheme put on an admirable performance to record a come-from-behind draw with Globe Yard scoring two quick first half goals compliments of Aubrey Clarke (8th) and Jamal Harlequin (11th). However, the second half saw two quick goals coming from Lodge Housing Scheme’s Leon Roberts (17th) and Kerwin Bethune (19th) to ensure a tie.
