Defendant sharing apartment accused of jewellery theft

LORENZO Gravesande (no address given) has been charged with simple larceny of jewels belonging to a man with whom he shared an apartment. The defendant appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which said, on November 8, he stole jewellery, valued $95,000, property of Orin Halley.
Police Sergeant Neville Jeffers, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant left his gold chains and rings in the room he was sharing with Gravesande and went to bed.
When Halley awoke, he discovered the valuables missing and confronted the defendant but the latter denied the accusation.
Gravesande told the court, Halley left the apartment door opened and anyone could have stolen his property.
The defendant was put on $75,000 bail and the case will be called, again, on November 16.
