MOTORIST Elias Augustus, 22, was killed in an accident on Garden of Eden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, about 12:30 hrs on Sunday.
Police said investigations revealed that the victim, of Long Creek, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was driving motor car PLL 9283 when he attempted to overtake mini-bus BLL 8333 and was confronted by motor lorry GNN 5714 which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
The police said his attempt to swerve from the lorry resulted in a collision with the mini-bus that turned turtle and also collided with the lorry.
Augustus, the driver of the mini-bus, Clive Bagot, 28, of Soesdyke, also on East Bank Demerara and four passengers of the mini-bus suffered injuries and were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where Augustus later succumbed.
Bagot and two of the passengers were treated and sent away while Taramattie Sookram, 41, of Madewini, of East Bank Demerara, too, and Oudit Jettoo, 57, of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, as well, have been admitted patients at the GPH.
Meanwhile, Police Traffic Headquarters reported that 98 persons have died in 90 road accidents this year, in comparison to 104 deaths from 90 road accidents for the corresponding period last year.
