Moses Nagamootoo’s in dire straits

THE GRUMBLINGS began ever since his return to the fold after law studies. He came with the express intention of being the boss or  leader, vis-a-vis presidential candidate of the PPP/C. He could not settle for a ministerial position, because, by this time, all vacancies were taken up by younger, brighter and more illustrious party faithful. Therefore, go straight for the top position.
However, no one paid any particular attention to this self-proclaimed ‘best man’ for the job of president. So when he realised that his headship position was becoming shakier by the minute, he did the opportunistic dance that most politicians do in blaming the party for a departure from the high ideals of its founder leader, Dr Cheddi Jagan, whilst pandering to the likes of the opposition that he is all in favour of a government of national unity, should he become president.
Of course, this was a class act of his in seeking support from opposition ranks, after all, if those who oppose you could come to agree with your grand plan, then you are in good company.
However, by this time, he would have lost the respect and admiration of the central executives, which was evident in the votes he commandeered at decision-making time, thus, this politician, who is full of himself, became more and more distant from his colleagues, a behaviour that was  intolerable. His usefulness untenable, finally ostracised.
His decision to defect was  a forgone conclusion, but the big question was: To where? He could not go to the PNC/APNU grouping because that would be hypocritical of him (Dr Jagan would never stoop to the likes of being a confederate of the PNC), hence his decision to stop by at the AFC’s camp.
Now,  there are two major problems confronting Moses Nagamootoo. Firstly, he has joined a party where all the members in the top bracket are after power, each individual claiming the right to be leader: Ramjattan, Van West Charles, and, last but by no means least, founder of the party, Raphael Trotman.
Moses has found himself in a camp where an acrimonious leadership struggle has made that place a living hell! I want to see what heights he can possibly reach with that leadership philosophy of his. I  do wish him all the best.
Secondly, he is now the member of a group in which persons of his racial background are not much welcomed. I make this declaration on the sentiments communicated to me by a member of that party.
And this is my point: Moses is in dire straits, trying desperately to make a comeback in a party that considers itself a Black Man’s domain, therefore nothing he can say or do will make a difference over there.
