THE Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) said it wishes to inform the public and other stakeholders of the 2011 National and Regional electoral process, that preparations for the Election Day Observation component of its 2011 Project are proceeding in a timely manner.
However, despite its best efforts over the last six months, the Bureau said it is unable to undertake its customary in-house-computer and field testing of the List of Electors (RLE), and provision of Voter Assistance Services because expected funding for this exercise was not forthcoming, and the EAB does not have sufficient time to mobilize alternative resources for this exercise before the November election date.
The EAB, in a statement yesterday, said it would like to reiterate its thanks to USAID Governance Enhancement Programme (GEP), the British High Commission of Guyana and members of the private sector for their generous support for the establishment of the EAB’s office and the Election Day Observation Exercise.
The EAB also expressed thanks to those who have been supporting its Voter Assistance and Education Programme, and said it looks forward to the continued interest from members of the public to volunteer as observers on Polling Day.
The EAB’s Council of Management is also encouraging more persons to call or email its office early to register as observers to ensure comprehensive monitoring of polling.
