THE Private Sector Commission (PSC) has indicated that, yesterday, it met with Mr. Eric Phillips, representative of the newly formed African Business Council (ABC) to discuss ways in which the two organisations could have a mutually beneficial relationship.
The African Business Council was formed by the All African Guyanese Council, a group of the 16 largest African organisations in Guyana, including the Pan-African Movement, the Guyanese Rastafarian Council and the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA).
According to a statement from the PSC, the Council was registered in July 2011 and will have Business Councils in each region of the country with them all reporting to the central body. The Council has 10 trustees and its Chairman is Mr. Jonathan Adams.
Mr. Phillips related that the Council will seek to provide access to finance for African businesses and is looking to set up an investment fund. “It will be an equity fund that will also provide management accounting and other skills to the businesses,” the PSC reported.
PSC Chairman Mr. Ramesh Dookhoo said the PSC is committed to work with any organization that is focusing on private sector development with the aim of creating jobs and opportunities for the youths of Guyana.
It said, too, that the African Business Council will be seeking to become a member of the Private Sector Commission.
