Contract awarded for new $16.7M fire station at Diamond

…and Baramita Police Station to be rehabilitated
THE Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, yesterday witnessed the signing of  contracts for the construction of a Guyana Fire Station at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, and the rehabilitation of the Baramita Police Station, Region 1.
The Diamond Guyana Fire Station construction will commence shortly at a cost of $16.7M and the contract was awarded to Gharchand’s Building and Construction Services, with a duration of six months.
Meanwhile, the rehabilitation of the Baramita Police Station was awarded to contractor Ivor Allen, at a cost of $13.4M, with a three-month duration.
The first phase of the rehabilitation has been completed, while the second phase will begin soon.
Rohee said that he is pleased with the track record of the contractors, and he however encouraged them to stick to the time-frame stipulated.

He explained that since the rapid housing expansion and population on the East Bank Demerara corridor, the construction of a fire station there is timely.
As for the rehabilitation of the Baramita Police Station, this will add to the force’s capacity for housing of ranks and the permanent presence of the police at the cross-border location.
In the pipeline of developments, the Fire Service will open a new fire station at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and the construction of a training school for firemen is in progress at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
