Ride for Life 5-stage Competition…

Teeter, Eastman top winners after two stages
JONATHAN Teeter of team USA and Barbados’ Jamal Eastman are the two front runners heading into the third stage of the ‘Ride for Life 5’, five-stage cycle race which commenced yesterday with two stages being contested.

The first stage pedaled off in the morning at 07:30 hrs with 60 starters at Corriverton and proceeded down a 46-mile route to New Amsterdam where team Guyana’s Godfrey Pollydore crossed the line first clocking a time of 1:36:05s ahead of Teeter.
Coming in third was Guyana’s Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams; USA’s Adam Carr was fourth; Eastman came fifth and Guyana’s Michael Anthony from Linden finished sixth.
Only three of the 60 starters were eliminated from the first stage which left 57 riders to start the 60-mile second stage from Rosignol to Georgetown.
That stage was completed first by Teeter in a time of 2:18:45s with Eastman, who is also the leading junior, trailing on Teeter’s back wheel.
The other four top spots were occupied by team USA riders Nicholas Sorensen, Carr, Michael Larson and Henner Rodel who finished in that order, respectively.
Following them were Williams, Pollydore and Robin Persaud who seemed to have had a tough time in that stage.
Yesterday, up to press time, a total of 35 cyclists missed elimination. It was not clear if any riders had perfunctory problems which hampered them to not cross the finish line before the 20-minute deadline given after the stage victor.

Today the third stage will be contested with a 35-mile course from Wales to Parika commencing at 09:00 hrs.
