-Eastman puts Middleweight title on the line against De Clou
WOMEN’S International Boxing Association (WIBA) Heavyweight Champion Gwendolyn O’Neil will defend her title against Pauline London, while Howard Eastman puts his National Middleweight Title on the line against Edmond DeClou as boxing returns to Thirst Park on Saturday October 29, hosted by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC).
On the planned five fight card, Jermaine King will touch gloves with Mark Austin, Iwan Azore do battle Troy Lewis and Mandessa Moses is down to face Venezuelan Anys Cedillo.
O’Neil has long been a target for Pauline London, who usually makes bold calls to the world Champion.
The 42 year-old O’Neil who fights out of Brooklyn New York, became Guyana’s first female World Champion when she stopped American Kathy Rivers for the WIBA Light Heavyweight title in 2004.
She lifted the WIBA Heavyweight title last June at the Princess Hotel and Casino with a unanimous decision win over fellow Guyanese Veronica Blackman and later defended it against Lanea Ramsey in the USA also gaining a unanimous win.
Meanwhile, O’Neil is preparing for another World Title fight against WBC Heavyweight champion Ijeoma Egbuine who had defeated the Guyanese on May 25 of this year in the USA via Unanimous Decision.
The headline card featuring Eastman and De Clou is one that promises to be a ‘must see’ based on its significant.
De Clou, the Linden fighter known for his stamina, is looking to further stamp his mark on Boxing in Guyana and with a record of seven wins along with one draw and a defeat, Eastman is the perfect target.
Eastman has long been one of the top names being spoken of Guyanese fighters, and with 54 fights (46-8) under his belt, he has fought some the top fighters in the world along with being a former British and Commonwealth Champion.
But age has apparently been catching up with the 40 year-old fighter, since he fell in his last two fights with the most being against Trinidadian Kirt Sinnette in his native land.
Eastman claimed the Middleweight title in July of 2008, defeating ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton and had only defended it against Andrew ‘Six-Head’ Lewis which he did successfully.
Mandessa Moses (5-1), and Venezuela Anys Cedillo will meet over six rounds. Cedillo, has seven loses in her eight fights with her lone win coming over Omaira Sumrez on December 20th, 2007.
Azore, Guyana’s welterweight champion, will finally get to settle a score with Lewis whom he drew with in his last fight in Guyana on May 28 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The holder of the national title since 2007, Azore who is based in Trinidad, last ring date was against Ionut Dan Ion for the vacant CABOFE Welterwieght belt.
Lewis on the other hand won his last fight which came over Berbician Kelsie George who also making his professional debut.
All the fighters, except for those living overseas, signed their contracts yesterday.
