Amazon Conquerors campaign officially launched for Super 50 Championship

THE Amazon Conquerors campaign  has been resuscitated by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and was officially launched on Friday night, for the national team, weeks ahead of the Regional Super-50 Championship which will be hosted in Guyana from October 19-29. At a simple launching ceremony  held at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion, where President of the GCB Ramsey Ali, Digicel Chief Executive Officer Gregory Dean, Noble House and Sea-food General Manager Leslie Ramalho, Dave Narine from Dave West Indian Products, Representatives from ‘Church’s Chicken’ and Guyana Captain Assad Fudadin were present to make remarks.
Cricket fans will remember the Guyana team which qualified for  the 2010 Champions League cricket competition in South Africa  played under the banner of Amazon Conquerers
The programme  this time around  is one under full sponsorship from Digicel – ‘the Bigger, Better Network’ and co-sponsored by Church’s Chicken.
In the GCB President’s speech, he disclosed that he has faith in the Guyana team and is confident that they would be able to make use of home turf advantage to emerge victorious.
He went on to express gratitude to Digicel on behalf of the board for sponsoring the national side and highlighted it has been a while since a co-operate entity had fully sponsored the team in a regional competition.
Dean in reply reminded those present why his company is still supportive of sports by saying: “We see our investment in sports as a very important facet of what we stand for at Digicel.”
He said, “The organization is already involved with cricket via the West Indies team, so it was not difficult to get involved with the Guyana side when solicited and I wish them luck in the competition.”
The evening became very interesting for the team when Leslie Ramalho of Noble House and Sea-foods promised the side G$75,000 if they win all their preliminary round matches; G$150,000 if they qualify and win their semi-final match; and G$250,000 if they win the competition.
Finally,  skipper  Fudadin speaking  on behalf of his team  thanked the sponsors and promised that the team would be giving one hundred percent to make Guyana proud.
