President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday instituted a four-month ban on CN Sharma’s CNS Channel Six for a programme that was aired four months ago in which Anthony Vieira made allegedly slanderous statements against Bishop Juan Edghill. Sharma received the decision at a meeting with President Jagdeo, the minister with the information and communications portfolio.
The station goes off the air on Monday.
This follows another four-month ban for the station in 2008 after it had shown a call-in programme in which one of the callers threatened to kill the President.
The commentary in question was aired on May 4, 2011. Since then Bishop Edghill has commenced litigation proceedings against Vieira.
