THE Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), in its effort to promote table tennis countrywide will be coordinating a team’s table tennis tournament involving schools from 21st to 23rd October. The tournament will be sponsored by telecommunications giants Digicel for Mini Cadet, Cadet and Junior table tennis players from various schools in the country, in both the male and female category.
President of the GTTA and Commissioner of Police Henry Greene, noted that this school tournament is organized as part of the GTTA initiative to promote table tennis throughout the country.
According to a press release, Commissioner Greene said that coaching programmes to ensure that schools participate fully will be conducted before the start of the Tournament through the assignment of table tennis coaches in the various schools.
The tournament will be contested by teams in the following categories: (1) 18 years and under (3 players – boys or girls); (2) 15 years and under (3 players – boys or girls); (3) 13 years and under (3 players – boys or girls); (4) 10 years and under (3 players – boys or girls). Notably, a player must be of the stipulated age on or before the 31st December 2011.
It will be played on a round robin basis, with the top four teams in each division contesting the semi – finals, while the Schools will be competing for various prizes in the form of trophies and medals for the first three finishers in each category, most outstanding players (male and female), Fair Play players (male and female), the best dressed school and the most discipline school.
