Police seize boat with 65 drums illegal fuel at Hampton Court foreshore

A boat loaded with some 65 drums of illegal fuel, suspected to be smuggled from Venezuela, was seized by police Wednesday morning on the Hampton Court foreshore, Essequibo Coast. Reports said as police arrived on the scene, a man known as “Maniram”, and who is said to be the owner of the boat and cargo was arrested on the seawall.
Reports said he was guarding the fuel at the time.
He was however charged by the police for disorderly behaviour after he was arrested, and appeared before Essequibo Magistrate Ms Leron Daly at the Suddie Court Thursday to answer the charge.
Police who are guarding the vessel are expected to confiscate the fuel, the boat and three 75 HP outboard engineers.
The cargo of fuel is worth some $300,000.
