GPL in sync with education

GUYANESE (I guess people as a whole) always like to criticize. Many times these criticisms are just and timely. So in this regard, people have a right to complain. However, I firmly believe that ‘good news’ must always be announced too. For me, at the deepest personal level, anything uplifting for children is enough to make me shout for joy. So just imagine how happy I am now, regarding a caption like “GPL awards bursaries to 13 students.” (NB. Only 10 were enumerated). This follows right on the heels of two recent goodwill  gestures: the North West Adventist Churches’ assisting their community children, and Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, giving impetus to children of some of its employees. I think of the quote, which says, that when government is good, people cannot be bad. So thanks now to GPL.
Now that most know that the Guyana Power and Light Inc on Friday awarded 13 students, through its annual bursary awards, I suggest that these students grab the opportunity, and continue their good work. In fact, the students were charged to “… see success as a challenge,(and) as an opportunity to bring out the best…, ” so the parents of the awardees (Nikkita Chetram, Basil Amo, Petra Langevine, Anjanie Mohabir, Goolsarran Ramsahov, Nandrine Hubraj, Daniel Swan, Renecia Mickle, Kendacia Wade, Joel La Fleur) were rightly congratulated for playing an integral role in nurturing their children. However, this nurturing must continue. The job has just started.
In closing, I congratulate the children, the parents and GPL-they all deserve their kudos. I also remind the parents that the Ministry of Education is continuing to make heavy investments in the education sector. Today, Guyana is at an unprecedented high in education. This must be capitalized on.
