Toilets overflow at Bholaisingh’s tailor shop

…as GWI workers cannot reach man-hole
CHOKED sewerage and a Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) man-hole, over which a businessman has built a ‘sanitary outhouse’, have now flared up into a source of annoyance, great discomfort and a health hazard for the neighbouring tailoring establishment of Hermon Bholaisingh at 5-6 Lombard Street in the city.

Bholaisingh, who is also a Justice of the Peace and Commissioner of Oaths, informed this newspaper that about one week ago, he discovered that there is a blockage in the sewers outside of his business premises, resulting in choked lines to his building.  As a result, whenever the toilets in his tailoring establishment are flushed, the water backs up and overflows the toilet bowls.

Not only are his huge stocks of tailoring materials threatened, but the stench is overpowering and is an annoyance to his staff and customers. And this is causing him to lose customers.
Bholaisingh explained that he has contacted both the Guyana Water Inc. and Puran Brothers and both entities sent service teams to the area. However, when the workmen arrived they found that they could not reach the man-hole to clear the pipes. The man-hole has been enclosed in the neighbouring businessman’s premises, and can only be accessed by going through a room at the front of the man’s business.  And the door to that room is heavily padlocked.

Meanwhile, the owner of the property has been in the United States for the longest while, and no one knows for sure when he is expected back.
Concerned over this development, the sanitation crew yesterday returned to the troubled environment, in an effort to improvise some way of reaching the manhole.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bholaisingh is peeved, claiming that at least one member of his staff has since taken ill as a result of the health hazard on the premises. He is calling on the authorities concerned to take swift action to ensure this situation is resolved soonest.
