Guyana Fashion Weekend previews two-day show at COURTS

GUYANA Fashion Weekend (GFW), a show organised by Sonia Noel and Richard Young, in collaboration with COURTS (Guyana) Incorporated, hosted a sneak peak preview of the September 24 and 25 event at Georgetown Cricket Club, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, in Bourda, Georgetown, on Thursday. It showcased what those responsible for the organisation said was the A, B and C style, aesthetics, beauty and comfort of fashion.
For the purpose of the fifth such promotion, the second floor of the Main Street business place was transformed into an extravaganza, with international lighting in a forest setting, in keeping with the United Nations Declaration of 2011 as the International Year of People of the Forest.
COURTS, which is also celebrating its 18th anniversary countrywide, sees the effort of the GFW as developmental for youths and the country as a whole and, in support, is joining forces to also celebrate the UN of the International Year of People of African Descent, with a contribution of $1M.
The collaborating between COURTS and the GFW started two weeks ago after a photo shoot done with the Ashley Brand furniture, exclusively from the United States (U.S.).
Marketing Director of COURTS Main Street branch, Ms. Molly Hassan told the Guyana Chronicle the aim of the Thursday show was to give onlookers an idea of what should be expected at GFW 5.
She said the Thursday occasion was to stir up excitement for the GFW 5 and the business is pleased and energised about supporting it.
Hassan said COURTS will also be partnering with the GFW for community projects with the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), in its neighbourhood ‘Tiger Bay’, soon and “remaining true to its mission of taking value to our home.”
Noel, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GFW remarked: “I am thrilled that COURTS found it fit to come on board with us and I must express enthusiasm with the way things are going.”

She is confident the collaboration will bear fruit in the future and, once cooperation is maintained, the projects will be executed successfully.
“We plan to execute other projects with COURTS, which will be done with the GPS,”
Noel indicated.
Since the commencement of GFW, domestic violence and other social issues were featured as the theme to raise awareness and bring about related change.
However, GFW 5 will focus mainly on the environment, Noel said.
“We are focusing on the environment because it is very important to us and we should know and be educated about it,” she added.
Young said when a company under corporate responsibility decides to be a part of something that will lead to national development, it is very satisfying.
“I am very pleased to work with COURTS and there is leverage and leeway that wants me to pursue excellence in fashion industry with furniture,” he said.
He said, under the United Nations Declaration of the International Year for People of the Forest, it is an easy way to transport nature and bring it home with the bamboo backdrop, because it is something that is used by almost all the ethnic groups in Guyana.
COURTS said, in a release, that it will be reaching out to people as style is also considered a comfort of life.
