THE quarter-final stage of the Fruta Conquerors-organised, Milo Under-23 football competition commences tonight with a doubleheader at the Tucville Playfield from 18:00hrs. In the curtain-raiser of the evening Santos FC will meet Georgetown Football Club (GFC) then the night wraps up with Fruta Conquerors and Northern Rangers in the feature showdown from 20:00hrs.
The competition then continues on Wednesday with more quarter-final action. Flamingo will meet Beacon United in the opening match at 18:00hrs then Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will do battle with Guyana Police Force (GPF) at 20:00hrs in the feature for spots in the semis.
In the last scheduled night of action, GFC scored a 2-0 win over Northern Rangers to make it out of the preliminary round while GDF gained a walkover from Riddim Squad and Beacon United defeated Charlestown United 1-0.
The night saw GFC’s Courtney Britton record a brace for GFC as he scored in the 21st and 24th minutes against Northern Rangers while M. Stewart’s 42nd-minute goal for Beacon United was enough to earn them the win over Charlestown United.
Fruta Conquerors topped Group A with 13 points as Santos finished second with 12 points and Beacon United and GPF occupied the third and fourth places with ten and six points, respectively.
Group B was topped by GDF who finished with 12 points as Flamingo, GFC and Northern Rangers grabbed the other three top spots finishing with eight, seven and four points, respectively.
