El Dorado 50-Over cricket competition …

Demerara trounce Essequibo by 58 runs
DEMERARA cruised to a comfortable 58-run victory over Essequibo when the two teams went head-to-head in the El Dorado 50-Over cricket competition yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Ground, Bourda.
Batting first, Demerara got to 234-8 in their allotted overs then returned to bowl Essequibo out in 42 overs.
Demerara openers Trevon Griffith and Shemroy Barrington contributed 36 and 38 respectively, as they took the score to 86 before both of them, along with Gajanand Singh (0) met their demise with Demerara still on that total.
Leon Johnson and Vishaul Singh stood firm at the middle and scored 67 and 32 then Singh fell which left Demerara at 163-4. Johnson played resiliently as his team mates Zaheer Mohamed and Paul Wintz went cheaply.
Johnson followed shortly along with Andre Stoll who was run-out without scoring while Joseph Perry and Kellon Carmichael were left unbeaten on 11 and eight, as the overs expired.
Anthony Adams was the pick of the bowlers for the Essequibo side as he finished with 3-47 while Ronsford Beaton supported with 2- 48.
In Essequibo’s reply, the batsmen found it quite hard to score, with Mohammed and Wintz ripping through the batting lineup. The former bagged an impressive 5-28 while Wintz claimed 2-39.
Opening batsmen Norman Fredericks (52) and Kevon Boodie (29) and the No.11 batsman Kevin Gordon (22) were the main scorers for Essequibo while middle order batsmen Jason Heyliger (0), Yougeshwar Lall (5), Norwayne Fredericks (16) and Herrel Green (14) struggled to get make runs.
The competition continues today when  Berbice challenge Demerara at the GCC ground while Essequibo do battle with President’s XI at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground.
