BRIDGETOWN, Barbados CMC – Trinidadian wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin has gained a recall to the West Indies side for the Test and one-day tours of Bangladesh. CMC Sport understands that the 26-year-old who has not played for West Indies for over a year after being axed for poor form and was also ignored for a retainer contract, will be part of the squad for the October 7 to November 3 Asian tour, expected to be announced later this week.
A right-handed batsman, Ramdin averages a meagre 22 in Tests and 19 in One-Day Internationals and since his axing, wicket-keeping duties have been shared by Carlton Baugh and rookie Devon Thomas.
Baugh has been included in the Test squad but dropped for the ODI trip, in a surprising move, since the 29-year-old Jamaican has averaged 32 from his last eight innings, and CMC also understands there has been no room found for frontline all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the ODI squad.
The 27-year-old, who has played 117 ODIs, last played for West Indies in the second one-dayer of the five-match series against India earlier this year.
Meanwhile, rookie 23-year-old Barbadian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been included in the squad, and will be joined by all-rounders captain Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell for the tour which comprises one T20 International, three ODIs and two Tests.
