FOOTBALL Clubs along the East Coast corridor received a significant boost to their development when the Guyana chapter of the Art of Living Foundation, in collaboration with overseas-based Guyanese, Mr. Horace Debarros handed over a number of sporting items to the varying organizations yesterday. Among the items handed over were clothing, footballs, socks and many other necessities for the game. Those benefitting from the kind gesture were the Plaisance Football Club; Buxton United; The Cyril Potter College of Education; Ogle, Industry and Cummings Lodge Football Clubs, along with the Hinterland Youth and Sports Development Association.
Representative of the latter organization, Mr. Mark Rodrigues, said the donated items will be distributed among football clubs under its purview.
Over the years, the Art of Living Foundation would make timely donations to a number of organizations and communities across the country.
Administrator, Mrs. Nazela Abdool said that oftentimes, equipment and materials are provided by overseas donors for distribution to persons, organizations or communities that are in need.
According to the organisation’s secretary, Mrs. Myrtla Richards, this is the second such gesture by Mr. DeBarros, who would normally collect things deemed necessary for community as well as personal development, and have them shipped here to be distributed.
On the last occasion, she said, Mr. Debarros’ donation comprised a number of computers, stationery and clothing.
The Art of Living Foundation is a worldwide humanitarian organization that reaches out to communities and individuals through its various spiritual and materialistic devotions.
Over the years, the organization has been at the forefront of a number of humanitarian efforts, namely, the fight against HIV-AIDS and poverty.
The organization, through its many branches worldwide, has dealt with conflict resolution and sustainable rural development in varying countries as well.
