AFC propagandist, M. Maxwell, is at it again and this time he’s saying that the PPP is only distributing Guyanese lands to Guyanese and as such it is not an avenue for political boasting.
Maxwell should make an effort to speak to Guyanese who were given the opportunity to own a piece of land , acquire a loan and construct a fantastic house and lead better lives than was possible in the past. Speaking to these people, who that piece of land means so much to, will enable Maxwell to have a better perspective of what obtains in Guyana today since, like his party, he too demonstrates how out of touch he is with reality.
Thousands of house lots have been allocated across the country and government has opened up several new schemes, provided the necessary infrastructure and ensured that persons of every income bracket benefit from the housing drive. Work was also done with commercial banks to ensure that mortgages are available at good interest rates so that Guyanese can afford to build a home for themselves.
Prior to 1992, Guyanese could only dream of owning their own homes, they could not realise that dream unless they came from wealthy families and were bestowed part of that wealth, or if someone died and passed on a piece of property to them via a will or if they had a PNC party card.
Sophia, which now is a well endowed community, was a squatter community under the PNC. Persons were chased from the lands there and beaten severely under the Hoyte administration.
It was the PPP who regularized this area.
Today, thousands of Guyanese, many of whom are youths, are first time owners of homes which, was made possible only by this government – a government that has a record of fulfilled promises to the Guyanese people.
For some persons, dreaming of owning a home in the past required too much effort because, if they did not have the money to build, then getting a mortgage was a difficult task and you would have had to repay an arm and a leg in the process.
What happens today? The Guyanese population of first-time home owners can tell you this, because the process today is less tedious and more beneficial in the long run.
Perhaps Maxwell can make an effort to speak on topics with which he is equipped with factual information rather than make statements which are so far from the truth. But then again, like so many, Maxwell is just a figment of someone in the AFC’s imagination, created to peddle misinformation and mischief.
