Driver of car which ploughed into house remanded

THE driver of the car which crashed into the upstairs of a two-storey house at Bagotstown, was remanded to prison when he appeared at Providence Court, East Bank Demerara, on Wednesday. Robin Rajpersaud, 32, of Lot 162 Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Leslie Sobers, to dangerous driving on August 19.
Particulars of the offence said the defendant drove dangerously along the eastern side of Bagotstown Public Road.
It was about 04:55 hrs when Rajpersaud, driving PJJ 6704 in a manner dangerous to the public, lost control of the vehicle and ran into a chain link fence before ending up in the upper flat of the two-storey wooden and concrete building.

Magistrate Sobers ordered Rajpersaud to be back in court next Tuesday, for sentencing and a decision on the issue of compensation to the owners of the badly damaged house.
The small Muslim family of Haleema Khan, her husband Faizul Razack and their seven-year-old daughter Anisa Razack, who are observing the religious month of Ramadan, had their prayers interrupted when the vehicle ploughed into their Lot 35 Bagotstown residence.
Fortunately, none of them were hurt but the four occupants of the Toyota Corolla had to be treated at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for various injuries, though not serious.
