Austin explains delay in works on Met-en-Meerzorg well
GUYANA Water Incorporated (GWI) engineers are working round the clock to complete maintenance of the well at Met-en-Meerzorg, West Coast Demerara.
This assurance was given by GWI Public Relations Officer, Mr. Timothy Austin, on Tuesday, as he sought, during an interview with the Guyana Chronicle to address concerns raised by residents in the area. According to Austin, the GWI Maintenance Engineer, Mr. Sattaur Mohammed, encountered some setbacks due to the procurement of certain materials needed to finish the job and, as such, there has been a delay.
Explaining why the works had to be undertaken, Austin said the well was spewing mud and its operations had to be stopped to initiate repairs, which were scheduled for completion within the next two weeks, so that the community would receive full service, again.
He said, until such time, however, there is a secondary well in the compound the same compound which is currently supplying the residents with water.
“The other well is providing water presently. Though they will not be able to enjoy the same level of pressure to which they were accustomed, we are ensuring that they are receiving water,” Austin stated.
He emphasised that residents in the affected areas have been informed of the issue during several community meetings with GWI officials and he gave the assurance that all efforts are being made to resolve the situation.
“GWI apologises for the inconvenience caused. We have engineers on site supervising the works and we are working round the clock so, within the next two weeks time, the well should be operational,” Austin reiterated.
With apologies…
