Goodwill tournament and training camp rated a success – GTTA

AFTER successfully hosting the 53rd Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships, the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) hosted a two-day training camp over the weekend for mini-cadet, cadet and junior players from Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), followed by a Goodwill Tournament which was contested on Monday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The coaches who conducted the camp were International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Course Instructor/USA-based Guyanese Sydney Christophe, national coach Linden Johnson and T&T coach Dexter Abbott.
At the conclusion of the tour Christophe disclosed that the camp and tournament were a success and encouraged the players to continue playing.
Abbott, after being in Guyana for the two events, observed that most of the T&T players were excited to participate and as such he extended an invitation to GTTA to send a team to T&T next year. He also thanked the GTTA and NSC for their hospitality while in Guyana.
The tournament saw Guyana’s Jeremey Singh and Niran Bissu top the 10-and-under Boys’ category while Jasher DeGannes of T&T topped the 10-and-under female category and Navaeh Jackman of Guyana finished second.
In the 13-and-under Boys’. category Elishaba Johnson and Jeremey Singh of Guyana finished first and second while Kyle Edghill (Guy) and Ronaldo Johnson (TT) occupied third. In the 13-and-under Girls’ category Priscilla Greaves and Anna Joao finished in the top two spots and Jamaali Homer and Kristie Lopes both finished third – all from Guyana.
In the 15-and-under Boys Kyle Edghill finished on top while Chelsea Edghill won the 15-and-under Girls’ category.
Stefan Corlette and David Duncan of Guyana were the top finishers in the 18-and-under open while Damika Douglas and Janae DeGannes of T&T were the only two Novice players.
