GECOM did the right thing

I AM actually experiencing personal and surrogate joy, now that I have read, in the Chronicle,  that “(The new) registrants (are about) to receive ID cards…”.
I am really ecstatic. My reasons for this exuberance are first personal, and then national.
At the personal level, I am quite happy because, right after receiving my National Identification Card, I lost it. I initially panicked, but then my mind was put at ease as GECOM (Coldingen) allayed my fears. I simply followed the easy recouping procedures, and now I am all set to vote. So yet again, a word of commendation is in order. This is because the staff members were all very proficient, courteous and friendly.
My second reason for this joy stems from the fact that all the new registrants would have been disenfranchised. Imagine how these people would have been feeling, if there was no reopening exercise.
Many from the opposition were adamantly opposed to the reopening exercise, and I saw this as not being in the best interest of local politics.

The reopening of the Claims and Objections period has now proved great dividends. The new registrants are still free – they can vote for whomsoever they want. Also, since the process was transparent (there was nothing ‘fishy’ going on); no one can justify any kind of wrong-doing.
Now, I ask that people just take a look at the number of individuals who are now so much more happy. GECOM’s chairman noted that some 7,280 persons were registered under this re-opened Claims and Objections exercise. The exercise commenced on July 25 and lasted for 13 days. Also, there is no need to fear, regarding the holding of the elections. Dr. Surujbally explained that the Commission is well on course for the holding of upcoming regional and general elections before the constitutional December 28 due date. So even that  fear proved evanescent.
Thanks GECOM.
