MANY employees, particularly in the junior staff category of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GUYSUCO), find it disheartening with the protracted delay in issuing pension refunds when either an employee has resigned or is being paid off for some reason. Most employers in Guyana and within the Caricom region issue pension refunds to their employees (former) within three or four weeks. The regional average is three weeks.
In GUYSUCO’s case it is sometimes six and seven weeks, which is extremely painful. Currently, Guysuco is processing approximately over a dozen junior staff refunds from the East Demerara estate in particular for over six weeks now without these former employees being told anything.
An urgent intervention by this Board of Directors is now necessary to ensure these workers are expeditiously compensated and ensure a more effective system is in place to make life more comfortable for these workers and in future cases.
Looking forward for immediate action.
