Den Amstel murder trial aborted on juror disclosures

SHORTLY after State Prosecutor Prithima Kissoon made her opening address in the Den Amstel murder case, at the Demerara Assizes, last week, a member of the jury made certain disclosures which resulted in Justice Roxanne George aborting the trial. The jurors were discharged without being asked to deliver a verdict and the accused, Dwayne Jordan was told a new panel will be selected, on Monday, August 22, to try his case.
In all trials by jury, before the members are sworn, they are, individually, asked whether they are related to the accused or have any knowledge about the parties.

In the event that a particular juror answers either of those questions in the affirmative, the person is replaced.

Jordan is indicted for the unlawful killing of Claudine Rampersaud on June 14, 2007.
