MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton yesterday remanded Grecian Brisport to prison after he pleaded not guilty to trafficking in two pounds of cannabis (marijuana).
The defendant, 36, of Lot 15 Third Alley, Wismar, Linden, is alleged to have had the illegal substance in his possession for the purpose on August 15. Attorney-at-law Mr. Trenton Lake, for the defendant, requesting bail said the narcotic was not found in Brisport’s possession.
The lawyer argued that the defendant was on his way to work when police stopped him and carried out a search during which nothing was found on him but one policeman went into the nearby bushes and brought out a black plastic bag containing the alleged substance.
However, Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the narcotic was retrieved from the defendant’s left hand in a black plastic bag.
The case was transferred to Bartica Court for September 1.
