Marked improvement in police intelligence-led crime fighting

– Rohee
MINISTER of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee told the media, on Monday, that there has been a marked improvement, as it relates to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) intelligence-led aspect of crime fighting.
When asked, he said: “I think they are doing a wonderful job. Many people may not agree but, I think, comparatively speaking, the police are doing better than in the past. There is a marked improvement.”
Rohee said, in many of the breakthroughs that the police have had, were intelligence-led investigations which yielded successes on many armed robberies within recent times, especially in the countryside.
“Most robberies are inside jobs in which individuals are providing information to criminal elements,” he remarked.
Rohee explained that person (s) who are working with businesses, be it individuals or family members, as seen in a recent armed robbery (Panday), inside information was fed into the criminal network.
He advised: “People with these big enterprises have to be careful and screen people who they are employing and not let them in too deeply in the business operation, especially where the movement of money is concerned. Once they get that kind of inside information, they adopt the get rich quick habit and use the contacts they have with the criminals to facilitate the robbery.”
He commented that most murders are  a result of disorderly and domestic behaviours and pose a challenge to law enforcement agencies, because crimes are perpetrated at all levels.
The minister urged people to get wise to what is taking place around them as it relates to businesses.
