Councillor laments cost of transport to Pomeroon farmers
PEOPLE’S National Congress Reform-One Guyana (PNCR-1G) Member of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Rudolph Garraway has reported that farmers in Lower Pomeroon River face high costs to transport their produce to the Charity Wharf on the Essequibo Coast. Speaking at the statutory meeting on Tuesday, he said the price of one gallon of gasolene in the Pomeroon River is between $1,400 and $1,500 and farmers have to use several gallons to get their produce to Charity.
The Councillor is, therefore, calling for the fuel price to be lowered in both Upper and Lower Pomeroon River.
Garraway said many farmers have to transport hundreds of dried and water coconuts, plantains, bananas, oranges, watermelons and other fruits by boats. (R. Prabhulall)
