Baksh challenges NDCs towards tourism

CHAIRMAN of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Ali Baksh has called for the historic Anna Regina High Bridge on Essequibo Coast to be upgraded and become more attractive to tourists. Speaking at a meeting of the Local Government and Co-ops Committee of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) last Thursday, he said the Anna Regina Town Council has to do more to make the structure, which has a rich history, become a tourist site in the region.
Baksh pointed out there are many other historic sites on Essequibo Coast that need to be similarly developed but he lashed out at Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) for not investing in projects that generate funds to help them become self-sufficient, in terms of providing social services to residents in their areas of operation.
He also challenged NDC officials to properly plan their programmes and review them once every quarter.
