…to be sentenced August 18
A 22-year old rapist, who assaulted a 53-year old woman and then raped her, yesterday appeared in the Criminal Court and pleaded guilty to the two charges before Justice Roxanne George. It is said that the accused had first intended to rape the woman’s 14-year-old daughter, but changed his mind and raped the mother instead.
Following the act on the night of 25th October, 2008, the woman and her daughter reported the matter to the police.
Justice George suggested to defence counsel Mr. George Thomas that he should seek a report from a Probation Officer for his client.
Observing that the Probation Officer would take about two weeks to prepare his report, the judge fixed August 19, a Friday afternoon, for production of the report, a plea in mitigation by defence counsel, and sentence by the court.
